US President Donald Trump has ordered an investigation into France's planned tax on internet and technology giants.
"The United States is very concerned that the digital services tax... unfairly targets American companies," the US trade representative said on Wednesday.
The French parliament is expected to approve the new tax on Thursday.
Any digital company with a revenue of more than 750 million euros - of which at least 25m is made in France - would be subject to the tax.
It will target companies such as Google and Facebook with a 3% levy on revenue made inside France.

Five armed Iranian military vessels have allegedly approached a British oil tanker in the Persian Gulf requesting the vessel to change course and dock, but were scared off by a UK warship, a US defense official claimed.
The incident reportedly happened on Wednesday when the tanker British Heritage was sailing through the narrow Strait of Hormuz, anonymous government officials told CNN and Reuters. The boats, apparently belonging to Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, allegedly requested the British vessel to change course and enter Iranian territorial waters.

The main reason for my wish to change this society is that so many human skills have no chance to come to fruition. Instead they are used in a really sick way so that people are maintaining their own suffering from wars, hunger and illness. But it can not be changed "top-down", only in some kind of "grassroots revolution" or better "evolution" where more and more people work together to get rid of TPTB (whoever that is).
No need for a "big event" but development. One of my ideas to reach it: Don't play "their" games - don't use "their" rules - don't think in the box of "their" paradigms.
It's more "refuse" than "resist" - without too much ideology. You don't need to know much about "what's going on behind the curtains", it's mainly to create your own rules together with like-minded people.
That is what I mean with "I'm on the side of the people".

UK is in over it's head there is nothing they can do against Iran military wise it's not 2003 Iraq and the UK base in Cyprus would be bombarded by Iran. UK does not have a strong enough navy to confront Iran's vast advanced land based anti ship missiles and would the UK risk their new F35s being shot down or crashing because of mechanical failure like a lot do? It's best the UK just hands back the tanker and stop following Bolton and Netanyahu orders.

The BBC's director general has warned that the world is facing "the biggest assault on truth since the 1930s".
Speaking at the Global Conference For Media Freedom in London, Tony Hall said: "An assault on truth is an assault on democracy."
He compared the spread of fake news to propaganda used by the Nazi party in the build-up to the Second World War.
"All those who believe in integrity in news must work together to turn the tide," he said.
Lord Hall added that the BBC had a role to play in battling fake news and press repression across the world. "We are ready to do even more to promote freedom of expression worldwide," he said.
