This will somewhat be the case at least until 2020, we should have recieved the P8 by then, the nimrod was beautiful aircraft and had a good service...

We are actually quite the handy pit stop for the patrol aircraft of our allies, it means they can stay up innyhe air for longer and cover greater amounts of sea and sky.

You have to be careful when you mention Dresden or various other places from the WW2 theatre, that was a different kind world and a new era of warfare...

Dresden itself was a large industrial area and was involved in the production of war time parts including the V1, it was also designated as a stronghold against the Soviets advancing and that would have been one hell of a brutal close quarter battle, likely on par with Stalingrad, it was a transport hub and logistical store...

If we were to carpet bomb a city today, it could and would likely be considered as a war crime, today with have percussion munitions and more options available to carry out missions where as back then, we didn't it was go hard or go home, with a hell of a lot at stake.

Aye that's my point that can be argued or rather defined, but it's not the same as it was in WW2 the comparisons can't really be made, in the sense that war today isn't the war of yesterday.
