Which corresponds to something like that: This map only shows ships sunk by German U-Boats from Feb 1st, 1917 to Feb 1st, 1918, not those b e f o r e Feb 1st, 1917 and not enemy ship losses by mines.

I didn't do a literal translation to simplify a way to overcomplicated sentence.

This means that the map doesn't reflect all ships sunk by German U-Boote in WW1 but only a year's worth.

Yes, this can be true. UK was during WW I and WW II dependent on imports from its colonies. So it it was priority of Germany to cut off all the supply lines. Germany produced everything at home. Furthermore without being at war US supplied UK with weapons. This was against all rules of war.
