The only group I see hope, are Marine veterans. They were sent to this shit and afterwards they get a scholarship to study. So they are educated enough to understand, what they have done. Only these veterans can save US.
My uncle, then only 15 years old, came to the Rheinwiesen camps. He was not the youngest prisoner.
A former boss of mine, from East Prussia, just 18 at the time, first came into Russian captivity. Because he was so young, they let him go after a while. Then he was captured by the GIs and came to the Rheinwiesen camps. He told me the things. Thousands of men, women and children in the open fields, many drowned in the mud or fell into the huge holes that served as latrines from which there was no way out.
He regretted having escaped from Russian captivity. Although the Russians themselves did not have much, they did not let the prisoners starve, as the Americans did.
Well, "Ike" had prevented the prisoners from being considered POWs.
