Remember sometime around 2001 when Pakistan and India were very close to war and there was a lot of speculation about a nuclear exchange.
At one point during the crisis, a very large meteor exploded in the atmosphere and both sides thought the other had launched. I can't remember where I read that now.

Switzerland, these mountain heavans are becoming real pleasure, there used to be too cold to enjoy it like that even in the summer. Lots of glaciers are gone no more cold water.

Re: The Weather Thread - Hurricanes, Storms, Tsunamis, Earthquakes, Solar Storms, etc.
The Mendocino Complex fire has already engulfed 290,692 acres (117,639 hectares) - almost the size of Los Angeles.
Barely a third of it is under control, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
Firefighters are tackling 18 major blazes across the state amid strong winds and low humidity.
The fire - which comprises two blazes in the state's north - was declared the biggest in California's history on Monday.
Officials had set a target to extinguish the fire by mid-August, but they now say they will need until early September.

Yep and for sometime there has been plans to make it even bigger. This would mean getting rid of many green spaces/nature spaces, and they've already started doing it.

On this map it looks as big as my country lmao...hard to swallow that. I remember Paris as a huge metropolis with high density, massive building blocks going on for miles uninterrupted, it didn't felt like dwarf at all but looking at London that's just what it is.

Many cities in the world have grown since the post-ww2 era, London much more than most it seems.
article here from 2002 even before the further increased immigrations started from the eastern european countries who joined the EU in 2003/4, and later the migrant crisis from Africa/Middle East :
London is now fastest-growing city in Europe. But can it cope?
London used to be known as the Great Wen, meaning the tumour on the face of England, the pestiferous, polluted, insanitary, seething mass of humanity and industry that was the capital, a place from which anyone with any sense would flee without a second thought.
But times have changed. London has become the Great Magnet, startling figures showed yesterday, drawing eager new people into itself at a faster rate than any city in Europe, and perhaps in the developed world.
A report commissioned for the Mayor, Ken Livingstone, showed the capital's population is likely to surge upwards by nearly 750,000 people in less than 15 years, from 7.47m today to 8.15m in 2016, an increase way beyond all recent predictions. (The estimate is far higher, for example, than the 1996 one from the Office for National Statistics, which envisaged a London population by 2016 of 7.6m, half a million lower than the new projected figure.)
The capital's population growth rate seems to have taken off in the Thatcher boom of the mid-to-late Eighties, and since 1989 London has already grown by 600,000, equivalent of a city the size of Sheffield. In the past two years alone, London's numbers have grown by 190,000, and by 2016 it will absorb another 700,000 people or more, the equivalent of a city the size of Leeds.
How on earth will it cope?
