I can confirm there was a major price hike in Romania BEFORE the events and the gas prices explosion..
I returned in February after about one year and found many prices already up 50%. Odd enough, they didn't change since.
Most other prices jumped significantly during Easter and remained high.
I think they blame it on Russia to hide deeper economical problems.
Euro dropped significantly against USD/CAD as well, and considering the US inflation of more than 10% before February there are signs of big troubles in Europe.
If I understand correctly, the gas/oil imports in EU from Russia remained more or less the same, so the sanction beat is mostly for sheep as there is no imbalance yet between offer and demand to justify the hikes.
