Appearing at their own event and rubbing it in their face is exactly what should be done by the leader of the most powerful country. Trump did the same in many other occasions and this contributed in raising general people awareness.
Paying for a vaccine research is what every sane leader would do. Trump was against all mandates - isolation, masks, vaccination. Are we already forgetting what happened when he started mentioning treatments like hidroxychloroquine, etc. and the whole quasi-scientific world mocked him for it?
Which other leader of an major country on Earth did the same? Not even Putin shed any kind of doubt on these "vaccines" publicly while in reality, most doctors in Russia were asking people to use Arbidol for treatment.
