Well, maybe they outplayed their hand? Zionists have technological and military advantage compared to Gaza. Also they have almost unlimited support from abroad. Of course, Palestinians have their international supporters as well but their situation si much more complicated. As Tel Aviv recieves all its support openly, Palestine is supported covertly. I don't think Tel Aviv didn't know about looming operation. And I'm pretty sure they are willing to sacrifice a few thousand of their own in the name of Greater Israel.
