—The U.S. will send a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system and additional Patriot air defense missile system battalions to the Middle East, the Pentagon said on Saturday, in response to recent attacks on U.S. troops in the region.
The United States has sent a significant amount of naval power to the Middle East in recent weeks, including two aircraft carriers, their support ships and about 2,000 Marines.
As it looks increasingly like this crazy train is headed off the rails, here are a couple of things to let you know a systemic crash is probably imminent. These are low probability but very high impact scenarios:
1) If the Strait of Hormuz somehow winds up closed/blocked.
2) If Saudi Aramco’s deep water port at Ras Tanura somehow winds up closed/destroyed.
If either of these events occur, we could see a global scale oil shock situation.

it is 'useless' against ANY threats INSIDE a 50 mile envelope.
aka: it's like a boxer who can only throw hooks (and no jabs)... all you gotta do is step 'inside' and he's defenseless.
cruise missiles and steerable (non ballistic) and hypersonics render the THAAD useless.
Iran has all three... and they've already said (if attacked) they will close the strait and take out Saudi oil production.
the Patriot and AGEIS systems are designed to throw the 'jabs'.

Regarding the IDF tank that targeted the Egyptian post.
There are several theories that I'm seeing around, and I would like to state them for the sake of honesty.
1- Israel purposefully targeted it with the permission of Israeli high command, to either
1) See how the Egyptians would react to a slight escalation, in case Israel wishes to evict the Gazans purposefully across to Sinai
2) Drag Egypt into a war, considering Egypt is the only neighbor of Israel that has the manpower, equipment, and experience to fight a prolonged conventional, therefore solidifying American presence and forcing America to the war to protect Israel, a "New U.S.S Liberty" per say
2- The Israeli tank crew did this on their own perogative, three Israeli tourists were shot dead by an Egyptian Conscript in the Police, and before that three IDF soldiers were killed by an Egyptian soldier, therefore their emotions most likely were running high and did this independently.
3- The Israelis are trying to close the Rafah border crossing, and this was a message
The one thing of interest I would note is that suddenly, most of the opposition that was complaining that Egypt is being dragged into a war and that we should not mobilize more than the second and third army are now calling for war, fifth column or lowlifes? Beats me.
A response must be enacted, it may be of a military, political, or economic nature, who knows.
