Images taken by Maxar on Feb. 26 show new buildings, roads and excavations at the site of a former Wagner base at Modibo Keita International Airport, Mali's main airport located about 15 kilometers from the country's capital, Bamako.
The base, which was reportedly previously used by the Wagner Group as a training and logistics center, has seen a significant increase in activity since July, when only a few vehicles were present. The new images show more than 40 vehicles of various sizes, as well as two large objects resembling a possible new administrative building and a lined warehouse.
The expansion of the base indicates that Russia remains committed to developing its presence both in Mali and in the West African region as a whole.
