Lol, I wonder if this had anything to do with it - A few hours earlier woeful US economic data was released:
The US Federal Reserve may be forced into emergency rate cuts as soon as this month after shockingly weak job figures set off recession tremors through the US bond markets and triggered a worldwide flight to safety.
The US non-farm payrolls report for May fell far short of expectations at 75,000 new jobs, while the figures for both April and March were downgraded sharply. “It was a huge miss,” said James Smith from ING.
Yields on 10-year US Treasuries fell instantly to 2.05pc on the jobs data, leading to the most drastic inversion of the US yield curve seen so far in the current financial cycle.

What a joke, we are at point 8 the whole time. Or did I miss something?
We already have a managed doemocracy with fake elections. Not because the result of the votes is fake, but because no matter which parties win, >90 % of the politics they have is the same. Here we had so many combinations of ruling parties. For example the "peace and environment" party "Die Grünen" with frontmän Joseph Fischer sent us in the first war after WW2 to Jugoslavia. An d with his Visa Affaire he helped people like Thaci to make their "humanitarian business" here. Together with the "social"-democratic SPD they invented Agenda 2010 with Hartz4, that lowered the help for jobless, lowered wages and so on. And they lowered taxes for the rich and gave more "liberty" to banks to make more money with derivatives, hedge funds.
It made it clear for me, what parliament is for - French "parler" means "talk" - so it's only for babbling. All the bohey and hype around elections here are an absurd theatre.
Perhaps in other countries it makes a difference, but since decades not in USA and Germany.

Re: #28 - Main news thread - conflicts, terrorism, crisis from around the globe
https://news.yahoo.com/uks-may-quits-party-leader-starting-succession-race-155336392.html
Prime Minister Theresa May stepped down as leader of Britain's governing Conservative Party on Friday, formally triggering the race for a successor who will try where she failed to deliver Brexit.
May, who quietly tendered her resignation in a private letter to the party, will remain prime minister until a new leader is chosen, likely in late July, but leaves Britain's tortuous departure from the European Union stalled.
Brexit is still scheduled for October 31 but while 11 contenders thrash it out over the leadership, the project remains stuck, with the only divorce plan agreed with Brussels having been repeatedly rejected by parliament.
Nominations for the Conservative leadership contest open and close on Monday, and the 313 Conservative MPs -- including May -- will hold the first of a series of secret ballots on Thursday.
With the worst performers eliminated each time, the goal is to have two candidates left by June 20. They will then be put to a ballot of an estimated 100,000 party members.
The contest should be completed in the week commencing July 22.

Perhaps in other countries it makes a difference, but since decades not in USA and Germany.
In Germany this is well organized in the "constitution" (Grundgesetz) and the "protection of the constitution" (Verfassungsschutz), a kind of secret service. When the Western Allies allowed mercifully the Western Germans to create a "state" after WWII in about 1949, they decided, that the Germans are not mature enough to have a full democracy. So the Germans are only allowed to vote for a parliament and not for a president. The majority in the parliament decides about the Chancellor and the President. So the majority can vote on every law it wants and it will pass, because it is the majority. All the debates and discussions are fake. It is not an open debate like in US or France, where the president has to convince the parliament. In theory this could be changed by a 2/3 majority. But in reality it is impossible, because every party, who would like to change this, is blocked by the "protection of the constitution". This secret service is in fact a sub-department of US services, so everything, that would make Germany really independent can be blocked, before it even comes into the parliament. So on the surface Germany looks like a souverain and independent state, but in reality it is a US puppet-state.
