CureVac and Sanofi Pasteur have signed a potentially €150 million-plus vaccine development
option agreement in parallel with initiating a $33.1 million Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)
co-funded collaboration with In-Cell-Art, focused on developing vaccines against infectious diseases based on CureVac’s RNActive technology.
The four-year DARPA-supported program will exploit CureVac’s RNActive technology along with In-Cell-Art’s nanoparticle expertise
and Sanofi’s vaccine development capabilities.
Under terms of this option, if exercised, CureVac could receive up to €101.5 million
in up-front and milestone payments, plus royalties, if Sanofi Pasteur develops either a prophylactic or therapeutic vaccine against each pathogen,
and up to €150.5 million if Sanofi Pasteur develops both a prophylactic and a therapeutic vaccine.
The latter would be responsible for funding all R&D activities, and would have exclusive global marketing rights for RNActive vaccines
selected under the option. CureVac would, in turn, retain the rights to its own core development programs
and to the background technology for all applications outside those encompassed by the Sanofi Pasteur option.

In 2011, CureVac and Sanofi Pasteur signed a collaboration and license option agreement for several pre-defined pathogens.
CureVac met all pre-agreed milestones and acceptance criteria relating to these agreements,
and therefore Sanofi Pasteur exercised its first option and extended its exclusive and non-exclusive options on all five pathogens.

CureVac has several different tech platforms in play, ranging from stimulating the immune system

It took many by surprise since it seems like Tesla is making a move in the biotech world,
but we now learn that it has been in the works for a long time — even pre-COVID-19.
The patent application is called “Bioreactor for RNA in vitro Transcription” and it describes an automated system for RNA manufacturing.
It describes a problem with current manufacturing processes for RNA molecules being labor extensive and requiring several different equipments.
The Tesla/CureVac solution solves those problems.

(November 16, 2020) George Soros buys a stake in big data firm Palantir
Soros Fund Management has acquired 18.5 million shares of Palantir, and Third Point has taken a more modest position of 2.4 million shares.
According to a submission to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Soros’ investment was worth about $ 175.3 million.
This is a purchase price of $ 9.50 per share. Palantir shares are currently trading at just under $ 16 per share,
so Soros shares are currently valued at approximately $ 294 million.
Palantir was co-founded by venture capitalist Thiel, known as a member of the “PayPal Mafia” that helped launch the payment giant.
With a more conservative political tendency, Thiel was also a supporter of President Trump in 2016 and is now a member of Facebook’s board of directors.

and help me to explain what's going on in Germany? For afair ~2-3 weeks now, Germany's parliament has been bypassed with regard to the measures on Corona. It has been governed by decrees for quite some time now, tomorrow decisions are to be made, which some people are already comparing with the Enabling Act 1933. I just saw your post and I'll read this Heise-article immediately.
What I can say for now, is:

An "Enabling Act (Ermächtigungsgesetz)" was necessary in 1933, because we had the the "Weimarer Constitution (Weimarer Verfassung)" at this time. According to the Weimarer Constitution the President and the Parliament were both elected directly. Both had to come to terms about everything. This was a true democratic constitution. The President could not act on its own. Even the appointment of a chancellor had to be done in coordination between the President and the Parliament. President Hindenburg saw, that an agreement with the Parliament was impossible, so he ruled with decrees. A similar thing was introduced into the US constitution at the same time and is still valid now. The so-called "Ermächtigungsgesetz" was introduced by the NSdAP under the Chancellor Hitler. So the Chancellor did not need to ask the Parliament. This was important, because under the Weimarer Constitution, the Chancellor was part of the executive and was sent by the President into the Parliament. So normally there were real discussions in the Parliament, because the President and his Chancellor did not necessarily have the majority to get a law passed through the Parliament.

All this changed in 1949. The new constitution, the "Basic Law (Grundgesetz)" only allows the Germans to vote for a parliament and not for a President anymore. The Chancellor is elected by the Parliament. This means a Chancellor always has the necessary majority. This means all discussions are just show. This was done, because the Germans were not considered "mature" enough for a full democracy by the Allied Powers. The real reason is of course, that a Chancellor, who has a majority for everything at anytime, is better to control from Washington DC. This means Germany does not have an executive power at all. The true executive is the US president, to put it simple.

So Merkel does not need to ask the parliament, because the result is clear anyhow.

The government wants to keep the corona measurements for ever and prepare a law. The opposition actually agrees with this law, but officially says "No", because they are the opposition and they know very well, that the government has the necessary majority. So their "No" is just hot air.

This is the same game, we are playing in Parliament since 1949.

The Pfizer vaccine would be available in the early part of 2021 while the Janssen one would more likely be near the end of the year.

A private UK company developing a vaccine that would be the first in the world to fight all types of flu
has raised £20m from investors including GV, the venture capital arm of Google parent Alphabet.
Vaccitech, a spin-out founded by scientists at Oxford University’s Jenner Institute,
said on Monday the cash would help fund its vaccine through a two-year clinical trial involving more than 2,000 patients,

The vaccine also stimulates T-cells rather than antibodies – an approach that has yet to convince existing flu vaccine manufacturers such as Sanofi, GlaxoSmithKline and CSL’s Seqirus.

(November 21, 2020) Israel Says Agreed With AstraZeneca on COVID Vaccine Rations for 5 Million People
Israel said Friday it is in advanced stages of negotiations with British drug maker AstraZeneca
to secure the supply of a coronavirus vaccine for five million people.
Under to the agreement, AstraZeneca would provide some 10 million vaccine doses,
with its vaccine requiring two doses per person.
The initial supply of AstraZeneca vaccines would arrive in Israel in the first half of 2021
subject to regulatory authorities in Europe, the United States and Israel.
This deal would include the biggest supply of vaccines Israel has secured so far.
The talks to seal the deal are held on the order by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Health Minister Yuli Edelstein.

1. With Amazon's acquisition of PillPack and its partnership with JPMorgan Chase
and Berkshire Hathaway, the e-commerce giant is becoming a hybrid entity,
Mr. Short explained. HIPAA lays out rules that entities with multiple functions must follow,
meaning Amazon needs to create barriers around each of its operations to ensure that health information doesn't pass from one business area to another.

2. HIPAA permits pharmacies to de-identify patient information and make it available elsewhere.
This means Amazon could acquire demographic intelligence about people that take certain medications
and use it to draw conclusions about their purchasing behaviors, leading to more targeted marketing practices.
The information could flow in a similar way from Amazon into the pharmacy.

3. Mr. Nova adds that these issues are not unique to Amazon — companies like Express Scripts and CVS also have mail-order pharmacy operations
and are subject to the same regulations. However, he notes, that Amazon's scale makes regulatory oversight more challenging.

4. Privacy protections already exist for group health plans similar to Amazon's venture with Berkshire and JPMorgan.
However, what makes their initiative different is its potential to offer multiple covered functions.
This means the venture must know where patient information comes from, how it is used and how to properly transmit it.
It is possible the venture could turn employees' data into protected health information, or it could remove identifiers so HIPAA doesn't apply.

5. Another privacy concern with the Amazon, Berkshire and JPMorgan venture involves what information an employer can provide to the insurance side
of its operations to better manage employee health, Mr. Short said. This could involve social determinants of health,
and there are rules and regulations governing ways to bring these data points together.
