Nobody objected and so the Admiral Kusnezow, officially not being an aircraft carrier was and is allowed to pass the Dardanelles and the Bosporus.
Russia isn't stupid enough to risk getting their ships trapped in there based on the political whims of Turkey that particular day.
It isn't so clever as it was Soviet navy doctrine. An aircraft cruiser is meant solely for fleet defense whereas an aircraft carrier is meant for that plus offensive action like bombing other countries etc. Russia never really needed offensive carriers like the U.S. empire does. They instead focused on cheap anti-ship weapons which they are the undisputed master of.
This is also why a US aircraft carrier has a steam catapult and the Kuznetsov doesn't - A US aircraft couldn't get off the deck loaded with heavy bombs without one whereas a Russian fighter can just take off under its own power off of the ramp lightly loaded with air to air missiles.

Re Bosphorus: Black sea powers can navigate their warships of any class through the Straits. That's why Kuznetsov is free to pass but US or UK can't deploy their aircraft carriers to Black sea.
I agree that it's highly unlikely Russia will deploy Kuznetsov to the region. Especially as it undergoes large scale repairs. It would take weeks at least to put it back on service. In critical conditions I would expect deployment of military aircraft to Iran, as the countries signed military agreement while ago. Iran already spoke in support of Armenia as Iranian government knows who is going to fight to Azerbaijan (ISIS and Al-Qaeda linked terrorists) and who is real mastermind behind this escalation (Israel).

In case Russia and Turkey become official war-participants, Russia would be trapped in the Black Sea and it is much easier to do the flights directly from Daghestan. But the Soviet Union officially labelled the Kuznetsov class as "Aircraft cruisers" and not as "Aircraft carriers". It is not about, what it is, it is about, what it is called. Germany called the "Scharnhorst" and "Gneisenau" "battle cruisers" instead of "battle ships" to circumvent the Treaty of Versailles. Non-the-less they were battle ships.

Not sure completely but, during peace times, Bosporus passthrough of military ships is based on their discharge. So it's not important how they're called but how large they are. Black sea powers can move through the strait anything, other nations are limited with size/discharge of their military ships.
