The truth is that the political elite has been lying to the British people for the past 46 years. They lied in 1973 that we were joining a simple trading club, or “common market” that meant no loss of sovereignty... https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/opinion/bill-carmichael-lying-political-classes-must-shoulder-blame-for-brexit-misery-1-9707235 … #Brexit

So a democratically elected British Prime Minister goes cap in hand to Brussels to beg for assistance from the likes of Donald Tusk and Jean-Claude Juncker, who have been elected by no one.

Re: Britain Rises - Updates, news, and commentary regarding Britain post-EU
Government faced an existential test in ‘resolving’ BREXIT. It has failed to do so. The reasons why are simple-providing you look in the right place.
The gold standard of effectiveness was set by the post war Atlee government who despite incipient bankrupcy rebuilt British industry and created a unilateral nuclear deterrent, defying American hostility to both. They nationalised the railways and steel production, created the National Health Service, the national secondary education system, a social security safety net for all citizens, began the de-colonisation of the British Empire, and encouraged the creation of what later became the Common market. They also nationalised the Bank of England.
This was achieved while Atlee and Bevin successfully lobbied for the creation of the UN and while Keynes negotiated with the US government the creation of the ‘Bretton Woods’ agreement creating unprecedented growth and stability in the world economy for thirty years.
And all done in six years!
They succeeded because they identified the needs of British citizens following two world wars and a depression. They campaigned and planned for years to find and then build support for practical solutions to problems previous governments had ignored or lacked the moral fibre to resolve. They created detailed plans, and then checked on the delivery of those plans, constantly improving them.
In contrast the present government have been ‘working on’ Universal Credit since 2010. That is nine years and counting, and seemingly they still haven’t got something that works! Has the policy achieved what they wanted? Nobody can be sure as they were never clear what they intended.
Government currently cannot deal with any ‘systems issues’ that confronts it. It can’t govern because it doesn’t know how to do so. It has neither the tools nor the nous to undertake any national plan or strategy from planning through to implementation.
Government in Britain has since the nineteen seventies been in perpetual crisis, staggering from one disaster to the next, while desperately hoping that the electorate aren’t paying sufficient attention to punish them.
Government USP now comprises the flogging of old, dead, or useless ideas. ‘Any-body want to buy a High Speed rail link? What about another runway at a totally congested airport? How about letting the Chinese build a few Nuclear power stations around the place? Fracking anybody!
So what changed to make governments unable to create, never mind implement or embed change of any scale?
The single reason for the failure is that government no longer represents the voter. It is an administrative entity that serves the interests of the ‘real electorate’. Those people own assets, pay no tax, live in no country but have ‘financial interests’ being actively protected in the City of London, and its off-shore tax and kleptocracy havens.
When a multi-billionaire tells the government he wants something or he might take his ill gotten gains ‘elsewhere’, but which is in opposition to what voters in Middlesbrough or Hull need, who do you think government responds to?
The issue for electors is that the government is unable to pass effective legislation, never mind monitor its outcomes. This is no surprise as neoliberals believe that government ‘gets in the way’ of the achievers, and the innovators, which is irrational alchemy expressed as propaganda, but it is a lie that government has bought and peddles assiduously.
If it has no faith in itself why should we have any in it?
