Damn, I should have saved the link. A few days ago I read something that Russia (in SU times) used a technology based on extremely small "tubes" (I hope deepl translates it correctly), not "chips". These were then completely "EMP-resistant.

Problem is that tubes are very error prone, you have to constantly switch broken ones out. Also they produce a significant amount of heat and can not be used in larger quantities like the transistors in chips. Maybe..if they had some scientific breakthrough and created more stable tubes it would be possible to have some sort of calculator, but I have never heard of anything like it in modern times...
Let's just hope the Russians know how to defend themselves from EMPs.
