The author of the term "Evil Empire" addressed to the USSR is former US President Ronald Reagan. 

Reagan's name is inseparable from the name of the Salvadoran village of El Mosote. In the 80s, there was a civil war in El Salvador. Guerrillas of the National Liberation Front fought against one of the bloodiest regimes in Latin America. Farabundo Marti. The general uprising of Salvadorans, at some point very close to victory, was stopped by the coming to power in the United States of Reagan, who provided the Salvadoran junta with unlimited urgent military and economic assistance. 

On December 10, 1981, the elite battalion of the Salvadoran army "Atlacatl" - prepared for the CIA's anti-insurgency war in the "School of the Americas" in the Panama Canal zone - entered the village of El Mosote in search of partisans and their sympathizers. For the next two days, the military interrogated, tortured and shot men and teenagers. By the dinner of the last day, they selected all young women and girls over 10 years old and after the mass rape they were also shot. After that, the rest of the women were executed on the outskirts of the village. The children who had been locked up in the church were dealt with at the end. Some had their throats cut, others were hanged. The youngest were thrown up, "catching" on bayonets. Then all the houses of the village were burned. Miraculously, only a few survived. Having finished with the inhabitants of El Mosote, the military went on the same mission to the neighboring villages of Rancheria, Los Terilos, Hokote Amarillo and Sero Pando. 

The underground guerrilla radio "Venceremos" was the first to report about the nightmare. In the world news, the information appeared a month and a half later in the publications of the New York Times and the Washington Post. 

We will never know the exact number of the dead, their approximate number is about a thousand, of which about 300 are children.

The Salvadoran junta has always denied the authenticity of these events, and the US Embassy and the State Department spoke of "gross exaggerations" that "play along with communist propaganda."

To date, none of the perpetrators has been found and has not been held accountable.

To understand the reasons for the victory of the West in the Third World ("cold") War against the USSR, it is worth looking at this map. 

The outdated economic mechanism of enslaving people in no-man's overseas lands at some point in the development of capitalism turned into the enslavement of entire countries and then - with the development of anti-colonial struggle, marketing and the media in establishing and maintaining control over formally independent countries. With all the unresolved problems and shortcomings of the USSR, our former country has never been complicit in colonial plunder; moreover, due to its modest resources, thousands of economic and cultural objects were built in dozens of poor countries, which were supposed to be a step towards their real independence.

Without cheap natural and human resources, behind which the blood and sweat of the "third world", no Western humanism is possible. Today's borders separating most of humanity and armored doors between the living rooms and basements of the world are still drawn by armies and investments. 

The current nonsense about the independence of Ukraine is solely due to the inability to distinguish geographical maps from playing cards.

25 years ago, on December 22, 1997, in the Mexican state of Chiapas, far-right militants from the organization "Red Masks" staged a massacre in the village of Acteal. At the beginning of the tragedy, the victims - mostly women and children - were praying for peace in a rural church. The executioners entered the church armed with rifles and machetes. 45 people were killed. In one of my photos - "The Virgin of the Massacre" - the figure of the saint was split by a bullet and since then the locals regularly bind up its glued fragments and worship them. 

The tragedy occurred during the offensive of the army and paramilitares armed with it on the Zapatista positions. The locals - the community of the Tzotzil Indians, who created the organization "Acteal Bees" are from the civil support group of the Zapatista foreigners, but being deeply religious people, they refused to take up arms. It was known about the preparation of the attack on Acteal, the Zapatistas tried to convince the residents to leave the village for security reasons, but the "Bees of Acteal" were sure that they were peaceful people and God would protect them. The tragedy occurred 2 kilometers from the permanent base of the Mexican army, located just around the corner, but the military did not intervene. 

The purpose of the crime was to provoke the Zapatistas to retaliate against the paramilitares in order to give the army an excuse to intervene in the "Indian showdown" and finish off the rebels. But the Zapatistas and their supporters, as usual, demanded not revenge, but justice. The names of the attackers - the switchmen - soon became known, they were first arrested and soon released.

Today, the atmosphere in Chiapas is more and more reminiscent of those times. Numerous paramilitares organizations have become more active, increasingly attacking civilian Zapatista communities and cooperatives. All this is part of the system's war against its most terrible enemy - real civil self-organization, which the Zapatistas have become pioneers in our time.
