When Ben Ratner’s family signed up in 2021 to be extras in the movie “White Noise,”
they thought it would be a fun distraction from their day-to-day life in blue-collar East Palestine, Ohio.
Ratner, 37, is in a traffic jam scene, sitting in a line of cars trying to evacuate
after a freight train collided with a tanker truck, triggering an explosion that fills the air with dangerous toxins.
In another scene, his father wears a trench coat and hat while people walk across an overpass to get out of town.
Directors told the group they wanted them to look “forlorn and downtrodden” as they escape the environmental disaster.

The 2022 movie was shot around Ohio and is based on a novel by Don DeLillo.
The book was published in 1985, shortly after a chemical disaster in Bhopal, India, that killed nearly 4,000 people.
The book and film follow the fictional Gladney family – a couple and their four kids – as they flee an “airborne toxic event”
and then return home and try to resume their normal lives.
Ratner tried to rewatch the movie a few days ago and found that he couldn’t finish it.
“All of a sudden, it hit too close to home,” he said.

"Asteroid" is perhaps a bit strong a term. It's known as a fireball - just a particularly large meteor. I've seen so many of them over the years, lovely to watch though.

Lenticular cloud. Very rare in the UK but more common elsewhere, I'd be interested to read up some more on how earthquakes can affect weather. I read about sudden drops in temperature before a big quake.

I once saw such a thing, it did not move, but only got bigger, that is, it flew exactly in my direction. Afair in August 2016. Then it exploded, I had heard the bang about 1 minute later, that means it must have been about 20 km away. This was at the time of the Perseids.

the earths crust is significantly comprised of Igneous rock... the majority by far.
the majority of this is basalt and granite.
the majority of granite is Quartz.
When you click your barbaque on to get that 'ticking' ignition...
you are exciting electron flow by HAMMERING/squeezing a piece of Quartz/ceramic. (called 'piezo' effect)
if you (conceivably) magnify/generate this effect by say the incremental shifting of tectonic plates....
could you generate ionization of the air? to 'create' a red cloud?
i really have no fucking clue. but i like to ponder on physics and geology.
