Re: #121 - Main news thread - conflicts, terrorism, crisis from around the globe
"The counteroffensive of the Kiev regime continues for the second day.
The silence of Zelensky, Stoltenberg and Biden is no coincidence.
There are no successes. Goals and objectives are not achieved, the losses are enormous. Only for the last day our armed forces destroyed about 2000 Ukrainian militants and foreign mercenaries, burned 32 tanks, including 8 German "Leopards" and 3 French AMX-10, 109 BMPs.
Today it is clear to everyone: NATO is at war with Russia. Ukrainians are only expendable material.
Washington and Brussels have prepared and armed the military formations of the Kiev regime. They encouraged terrorist attacks and sabotage against civilians in our country using Western weapons. They dragged European states into the war, promising the success of the Kiev regime's offensive.
But the "Barbarossa-2" plan failed".

If someone thought the era of MANPADS was coming to an end, they couldn’t be more wrong. While western NATO countries neglected the effectiveness of MANPADS for decades, it appears the modern battlefield requires them. While their natural prey was typically helicopters and attack aircraft, drones and cruise missiles have been added to the list. Everything that levitates or slowly flies can be a target.MANPADS, as opposed to more advanced defense systems or Javelins, are simple and cheap. While they require some basic training and are by no means “fire-and-forget,” they are still relatively easy to operate and effective. It’s not only the immediate effect of MANPADS that makes them so valuable, it’s also the fear of their presence. Knowing their capabilities, the enemy is forced to carefully consider how to act. That often means conducting operations from a farther distance and higher altitude, with greater stress. This makes overall missions less precise, without a single missile fired.MANPADS are also difficult to countermeasure. Their cost and simplicity make them widespread and universal, and only one person is needed to fire them. They are defensive and passive weapons, and can be hidden anywhere that’s not an open field. Being hard to detect, along with their mass usage, makes them nearly impossible to completely neutralize. MANPADS have proved effective over the past 20 years, contradicting their obsolete status. In 2016, the 40-year-old Soviet-made 9K38 Igla shot down a Turkish Bell AH-1 SuperCobra armed with modern equipment, while Georgian forces during the 2014 Russo-Georgian War claimed their PPZR Grom shot down nine Russian aircraft, out of a total of 21. Reports said it was the only weapon immune to Russian attempts to jam it.Some were captured by GRU and handed over to separatists in Ukraine.PPZR Grom and PPZR PiorunOne of the most prominent and newest MANPADS is the Polish-made Grom and its upgraded version, the Piorun. Based on the experience of building Soviet Strelas for over 20 years, its manufacturer, Mesko, decided to continue the project independently after the fall of the Soviet Union.In 1995, the Grom was introduced, wholly “Polish,” without dependence on Russian-made components. For the sake of this article’s length, we will focus on its successor, the PPZR Piorun. Mesko focused on upgrading the overall capabilities of its product. Piorun can destroy targets flying at 10 to 4,000 meters in altitude and from as far away as 6,500 meters. The numbers are better than the American Stinger and comparable to the newest Russian fourth generation 9K333 Verba.While the Verba is somewhat out of reach of NATO members for obvious reasons, the Polish-made Pioruns are getting hype after Exercise Tobruq Legacy 2019, which took place in Ustka, Poland. Stingers and the Igla reached an effectiveness of only 70 percent during testing, while Pioruns had an effectiveness of 100 percent.It’s no wonder the US ordered an unknown amount of Pioruns in 2022. more on link https://www.warhistoryonline.com/instant-articles/polish-manpads.html?chrome=1&firefox=1 https://archive.ph/sRpWF
BREAKING: Hell Breaks Loose as Kakhovka Dam Completely Destroyed
Major news broke that the Nova Khakovka dam has been completely destroyed. This is the central, extremely important dam that was critical to the whole Kherson situation last year. It was the sole reason Russia retreated, as the threat of destroying the dam kept their troops on the right/western bank of the Dnieper river highly vulnerable. An article written last year that spoke of the catastrophic consequences that could ensue if the dam were to be destroyed:
No one knows who destroyed it: Ukrainian analysts are saying Russia did it while Russians say it was the Ukrainians. However, the destruction did appear to come not long after a new wave of Russian cruise missile attacks launched by 6 Tu-95 bombers. Could Russia have destroyed the dam just as Ukraine began to kick off its large offensive, particularly since, as I wrote earlier, there were reports that Ukraine was trying to actualize a river crossing there?It’s undecided who benefits and to whom it’s a detriment, as some believe that all Russian defenses on the eastern bank will be wiped away by the flood. However, the expanded river boundaries and elevated water levels would preclude Ukrainian crossing attempts, so it clearly seems to favor Russia there. We’ll have to wait and see how it develops as this is just breaking now, no pun intended. more on link https://simplicius76.substack.com/p/breaking-hell-breaks-loose-as-khakovka https://archive.ph/egO8Q

Recent statements from the Russian Foreign Ministry:
The Russian Federation strongly condemns Ukraine's destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power plant, which led to a large-scale humanitarian and environmental disaster;
Russian Federation initiates UN Security Council review of Kiev's crime at Kakhovskaya HPP;
Russia calls on the international community to condemn the criminal actions of the Ukrainian authorities;
Ukraine's destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP is an act of terrorism directed against purely civilian infrastructure;
The destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP was planned in advance and purposefully by Kiev for military purposes as part of a so-called counterattack;
Kiev's sabotage of the Kakhovskaya HPP caused enormous damage to the ecosystem of the Dnieper estuary.

In a television interview, which was examined at the trial, the woman had said: "Russia is not an aggressor." In addition, she had claimed that Russia's action was "without an alternative". The court was convinced that the woman's statements were suitable for "disturbing the public peace"."

A satellite service in France measures the water levels of lakes and water reservoirs like the Nova Khakovka Dam.
The data suggests that Ukraine artificially raised the water level in the reservoir to the highest level in 8 years
just before the dam was destroyed. Smoking gun?

Ukraine’s military command considered the option of artificially raising the water level
in the Dnipro River as part of the operation to liberate Kherson, Maj. Gen. Andriy Kovalchuk,
who led the counteroffensive, said in an interview with the Washington Post on Dec. 29.
The Ukrainians, he said, even conducted a test strike with a HIMARS launcher
on one of the floodgates at the Nova Kakhovka dam, making three holes in the metal
to see if the Dnipro’s water could be raised enough to stymie Russian crossings, but not flood nearby villages.

Lend Lease claims against the former Soviet Union arising from World War II were settled in a 1972 agreement between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. In the 1972 agreement, the U.S.S.R. pledged to make three initial payments totaling $48 million and to repay the remaining Lend Lease debt once the United States had granted Most Favored Nations (MFN) trade status. The Soviet Union made the three initial downpayments, but because it did not obtain MFN status at that time -- because of conditions set forth in the 1974 Trade Act -- its obligation to make the remaining payments toward its Lend Lease debt was not triggered before the dissolution of the U.S.S.R. However, MFN status was extended to the Russian Federation in 1992, and accordingly, in 1993, Russia signed an agreement with the U.S. in which it acknowledged its liability and agreed to a repayment schedule for the former U.S.S.R.'s Lend Lease debt.
https://1997-2001.state.gov/issues/economic/fs_000301_wardebt.html https://archive.ph/TltQm
After the war the United State cancelled all lend-lease debts except that of the USSR. In 1972 the USSR and the United States signed an agreement that the USSR would pay $722 million of its debt by July 1, 2001.
