Re: #16 - Main news thread - conflicts, terrorism, crisis from around the globe
Beirut (AFP) - US-backed fighters in Syria suffered record fatalities in an assault by the Islamic State group, a war monitor said Monday, as holdout jihadists kept up a fierce defence of their last Syrian redoubt.
It said a total of more than 200 people have been killed since around 500 IS fighters burst out of the fog shrouding the area in eastern Syria near the border with Iraq to launch their deadly assault on Friday.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 92 of the dead were fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the Kurdish-led ground units that have spearheaded the US-backed fight against IS in Syria.
At least 61 jihadists and 51 civilians, mostly their relatives, also died in the violence which saw US-led coalition air strikes help the SDF recover positions it had briefly lost.
The jihadists used suicide bombers, suicide commandos and sleeper cells in the countryside around their bastion of Hajin to inflict maximum damage, it said.
"It's the largest number of SDF fighters killed (by IS) in a single battle since it was founded" in 2015, Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.
The SDF, an alliance of fighters from the main Syrian Kurdish militia known as the People's Protection Units and anti-jihadist Arab fighters, rarely releases full casualty figures.
- Mounting toll -
Abdel Rahman said the latest deaths brought to 452 the number of SDF fighters killed since the start of their offensive on the Hajin pocket on September 10.
Lol America claiming 500 ISIS burst out of the fog.

Is Lebanon Embracing a Larger Russian Role in Its Country?
1. Lebanon’s trade with Russia to increase 3 fold
2. Lebanese business community see Russia as a conduit to economic investment in #Syria 's reconstruction projects
3. Russia viewed as a protector
https://tcf.org/content/commentary/lebanon-embracing-larger-russian-role-country/?agreed=1
"Suddenly, parliament approved a technical military cooperation agreement with Russia—a deal that had been frozen since 2012. An amendment was hastily added that would see Lebanon receiving military aid from Russia—the first shipment of which is expected to arrive at the beginning of September."
"This paved the way for Russia to offer an even more lucrative military deal—one that would see the Lebanese army receiving Russian weaponry over a span of fifteen years to the tune of around $1 billion, and with no interest on the repayments. This time it looked likely to go through: the president approved it, the army approved it, and the defense minister was set to sign it on his trip to Moscow. But intense pressure from both the United States’ and the United Kingdom’s ambassadors in Lebanon forced Lebanese Prime Minister Hariri to shelve the deal—according to numerous sources close to the Russians and close to the premier—and he abruptly cancelled the defense minister’s trip."

#Lebanon has rejected a Gift from #Russia of million of ammo and spare parts saying "it doesn't have AK-47 in its arsenal".
In 2008, Lebanon rejected a Russian gift of 10 MIG-29, 77 T-72, 100 pcs 130 mm towed field gun M-46 (w/ 50k ammo each) & helicopters: reason?
#USA & #UK.
I thought they would ignore US and UK because Hezbollah and it's allies are the majority in government now I guess sanctions were threatened but it doesn't matter anyway as Hezbollah gets huge amounts of weaponry from Iran, Syria and north Korea and sometimes Russia gives weapons to Syria that then go straight to Hezbollah.

Those Yemenis fighting and dying for Saudi Arabia are nothing but cannon fodder the Saudis are never going to capture hodeidah before the end of November like the Americans told them so they might aswell leave instead of dying to look strong before a cease-fire.

Czech Republic President Milos Zeman has long favoured moving the Czech embassy from Tel Aviv to the disputed city of Jerusalem
It looks like you have a Israel first president Zod.

One of a few things I strongly disagree with him. He's right on many things, as immigration or Russia/Crimea but this obsession with fake Israel is quite pathetic. He was in favor of moving the embassy right after Trump announced his decission. Back then I wrote that it's good thet Zeman has no such power to do it. It's not up on him to make such decission.
