The Admiral Gorshkov frigate, which is one of the most advanced ships in the Russian Navy, will make a stopover in the Hawaii area, the Russian Northern Fleet's press service said in a statement on Wednesday.
The Admiral Gorshkov armed with Kalibr cruise missiles is on a long-range voyage together with the Nikolai Chiker tugboat and the Elbrus replenishment vessel.
"The ships are bound for the central part of the Pacific Ocean. They will make a stopover in the Hawaii area for being refueled by the Kama tanker, which is moving slightly ahead of the group," the statement said.
The Admiral Gorshkov will practice deterrence of an air strike and destruction of high-speed surface targets using an A-192 artillery system, it said.
The group departed from Severomorsk on February 26. This is the first voyage for the frigate. The Admiral Gorshkov has covered over 16,500 nautical miles by now. It has carried out several defense drills and visited ports in Djibouti and Sri Lanka for replenishment and rest.
In late April, the Admiral Gorshkov participated in the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Chinese Navy and visited the Pacific Fleet's main base in Vladivostok to celebrate the V-Day.

A British general, Chris Ghika, serving in Iraq has rejected claims from the White House that coalition forces in the Middle East are facing an increased threat from Iran or its allies. “No, there has been no increased threat from Iranian-backed forces in Iraq and Syria,” he said, according to Reuters. “We are aware of their presence clearly and we monitor them along with a whole range of others because that is the environment we are in.”

“Gen Ghika’s comments seem to confirm our worst fears, that the Trump administration is lying about intelligence in order to build the case for another catastrophic war of choice in the Middle East,” said Jon Rainwater, executive director of Peace Action, a California-based group that works to find peaceful solutions to strategic problems.

The United States has publicly rebuked a senior British general who challenged claims that Iranian-backed groups are preparing to mount attacks against Western assets in the Middle East.

The extraordinary move came after Major General Chris Ghika, the deputy commander of Operation Inherent Resolve, the US-led coalition against Islamic State, said that there was no increased threat from pro-Iranian groups in Iraq and Syria.

Hours later the US military disowned the British general's comments and directly contradicted him.

US Central Command, which is responsible for US military operations in the Middle East, claimed both US forces and their allies - including the mission Maj Gen Ghika is deputy commander of - are aware of and have responded to the threat.

"Recent comments from OIR's Deputy Commander run counter to identified credible threats available to intelligence from US and allies regarding Iranian-backed forces in the region," said Captain Bill Urban in a statement.

"US Central Command, in coordination with Operation Inherent Resolve, has increased the force posture level for all service members assigned to OIR in Iraq and Syria. As a result, OIR is now at a high level of alert as we continue to closely monitor credible and possibly imminent threats to US forces in Iraq."
