Re: #27 - Main news thread - conflicts, terrorism, crisis from around the globe
Brexit Party boss, Nigel Farage, has been pictured arriving at the US embassy residence after Donald Trump returned there following engagements and a news conference in Downing St. This has been confirmed by a Reuters photographer.
Mr Farage previously claimed that Downing St had told Trump he is not to meet the Brexit Party boss.
He said last week: “His entourage have been told by number 10 that he is not to meet me. Isn’t that bizarre? Isn’t that absolutely bizarre?
“Doesn’t it sum up why British politics needs to change? The small-mindedness and petty-mindedness of the Conservative party in this case. Equally, had Labour been in office it would have been the same.”
However, a Farage boasted about his meeting with the US President this afternoon and took to Twitter, saying: “Good meeting with President Trump – he really believes in Brexit and is loving his trip to London.”

Galloway took part in a debate on UK morning TV about his "anti-semitic" sacking from talkRADIO. The other guy in the debate accused him of being a racist but could never explain how Galloway is a racist, instead when he found he had no argument like a kid he repeatedly shouted at Galloway to shut his mouth.
Galloway also brought up an example of a soccer team in Scotland where many fans have waved Palestinian flags in their stadium before now, and if that team had ever lost a cup final and anyone wanted to say "there would be no Palestinian flags on the cup" then it would be an attack on the Palestinian political entity and their flag, and in their right to say that. But when someone like Galloway says the equivalent for the flag of Israel then he is accused of being racist.

Quite the miscalculation there then.

Re: #27 - Main news thread - conflicts, terrorism, crisis from around the globe
McMaster made this curious remark at an event held by the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, where he is chairman of the Center on Military and Political Power. Even more peculiar was McMaster’s suggestion that only certain kinds of people are in any position to render a verdict on America’s military interventions:
‘A young student stood up and said, “All I’ve known my whole life is war.” Now, he’s never been to war, but he’s been subjected, I think, to this narrative of war-weariness.’
McMaster implies that those who have not been to war know nothing of what they speak. Therefore, they are ill-equipped to judge whether America’s wars have been worth the cost in blood and treasure. Not only is this sentiment wrong, it is also dangerous, and the sort of talk which widens the civil-military divide.
McMaster’s three decades of service in uniform afford him a unique perspective on matters of war and peace. But this perspective is not necessarily the one the nation should adopt, especially if his views come close to manifesting the symptoms that Isabel V. Hull calls ‘institutional extremism’.
In Absolute Destruction: Military Culture and the Practices of War in Imperial Germany (2004), Hull defined institutional extremism as ‘the repeated and unlimited application of the military’s expertise, that is, the use of violence’, regardless of political context. When the means overwhelms the end, violence is ‘pursued because the institution keeps on generating violence according to quasi-automatic mechanisms’.
