(May 25, 2021) Vaccination segregation: Chicago restaurant separates customers by jab status, citing city’s Covid-19 rules
A social experiment is underway in Chicago, where a restaurant is segregating customers by Covid-19 vaccination status.
City guidelines say this is perfectly fine, says the owner, who chairs the Illinois Restaurant Association.

Moe’s Cantina pioneered the practice this past weekend, according to Chicago’s WBBM-TV.
The restaurant was divided into an unrestricted, vaccinated section and another, where partitions and socially distanced tables remain.

“We decided to divide, and you’re free to come on this side, go to the bar. You can be pre-pandemic,” said the owner, Sam Sanchez.
Patrons will need to show proof of full vaccination to be issued with a pink bracelet and allowed into the unrestricted area.

for animal testing in an agreement executed December 16, 2019.
Notably, the materials were described as “mRNA coronavirus vaccine

This likely refers to work done on an earlier coronavirus, MERS-CoV.
It nonetheless provides further evidence that the federal government was developing coronavirus candidates with Moderna that it jointly owned.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — California is giving away the country’s largest pot of vaccine prize money — $116.5 million
— in an attempt to get millions more inoculated before the most populous state fully reopens next month.

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday announced the prizes, which include $1.5 million each
for 10 Californians, the largest single award offered in any state.

The goal is to motivate roughly 12 million people who are eligible but not yet vaccinated,
though the more than 20 million Californians already partially or fully vaccinated also are in the running for the most valuable prizes.
The state will give $50 gift cards either for general use or for specific grocery stores to the next 2 million people who get shots,

(May 30, 2021) 117 employees sue Houston hospital network over vaccination mandate, say they don’t want to be ‘guinea pigs’
Marc Boom, the CEO of Houston Methodist, a firm that runs eight hospitals with more than 26,000 employees, gave personnel a June 7 deadline to get vaccinated.
The consequences of not getting the shot include “suspension and eventually termination,” he wrote in an April letter to doctors and nurses, which was cited in the lawsuit filed on Friday.
A total of 117 plaintiffs are insisting that the hospital is “illegally requiring its employees to be injected with an experimental vaccine.”

The hospital is forcing the staff to be “human ‘guinea pigs’ as a condition for continued employment,” the lawsuit says.
“It is a severe and blatant violation of the Nuremberg Code and the public policy of the state of Texas,”
attorney Jared Woodfill, who filed the lawsuit in Montgomery County, told ABC News.

Written shortly after WWII, the Nuremberg Code lays out the basic ethical principles of medical experimentation on humans.
The US Food and Drug Administration approved the emergency use of the vaccines made by Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson
after the required trials were completed. They are yet to be granted full approval, which requires a more rigorous review.

(March 16, 2021) This Jellyfish Can Defy Death And Turn Back Time
A species called Turritopsis dohrnii is able to reverse its own aging process.
Texas A&M-Galveston researchers are trying to see if this could apply to humans.

Maria Pia Miglietta, associate professor in marine biology, has been researching
the unique properties of Turritopsis dohrnii, often referred to as T. dohrnii,
a jellyfish species found around the world, especially off the coastline of her native Italy.

The jellyfish cells are able to undergo a process called transdifferentiation
that allows T. dohrnii to revert back to a younger life cycle – much like a 40-year-old human who could go back to being a five-year-old.

“When T. dohrnii is faced with unfavorable conditions such as starvation, physical damage, change in temperature etc., instead of dying,
it forms a cyst-like ball and settles on the bottom,” she said.

She said that in a few days, that cyst changes into a polyp
and eventually these colonies form buds and a new jellyfish.
In effect, it has prevented its own death.

(March 5, 2016) Moon jellyfish can age backwards and regenerate body parts
An in-depth study of the jelly has been made by researchers at Xiamen University, in China.
Led by Jinru He the researchers have pinpointed a number of interesting characteristics relating to the moon jellyfish(Aurelia aurita).
The finding of regeneration was discovered when Dr. He monitored a moon jellyfish for 18 months.
At the end of this time, the jellyfish “died.” At this point, Dr. He placed the jellyfish back into a different tank
of freshly collected marine water. He then waited.
Three months later, a sea anemone-like polyp rose up from the seemingly dead jellyfish, and in time, a new jellyfish formed.
This was the first time, according to National Geographic, this had been observed.
At this point, researchers are unclear if this is reverse aging or some form of regeneration.

(November 30, 2020) Researchers identify gene responsible for cellular aging
The research team, made up of scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, relied on cellular reprogramming
- a commonly used approach to reverse cell aging - to establish a genetically identical young and old cell model for this study.

The team next conducted an analysis of the cells to determine if there were any changes in global gene expression
resulting from the reprogramming. They found that the expression of GATA6, a protein
that plays an important role in gut, lung and heart development,
was repressed in the reprogrammed cells compared to the control cells.

This repression led to an increase in the activity of a protein essential to embryonic development called sonic hedgehog (SHH)
as well as the expression level of yet another protein, FOXP1, necessary for proper development of the brain, heart and lung.
"Thus, we identified the GATA6/SHH/FOXP1 pathway as a key mechanism that regulates MSC aging and rejuvenation," Dr. Li said.

To determine which of the Yamanaka transcription factors (four reprogramming genes used to derive iPSCs)
were involved in repressing GATA6 in the iPSCs, the team analyzed GATA6 expression in response to the knockdown of each factor.
This yielded the information that only OCT4 and KLF4 are able to regulate GATA6 activity, a finding consistent with that of several previous studies.

No clear evidence has emerged indicating that executives sold stock based on confidential internal information, which would be illegal.

Moderna says its executives pre-scheduled their stock sales long in advance.
Those schedules - known as 10b5-1 plans - can act as a defense to charges of insider trading.
But the plans have to be put in place when executives do not have confidential inside information.

NPR has found multiple executives adopted or modified their plans just before key announcements about the company's vaccine.
That has raised questions about whether they were aware of nonpublic information when they planned their stock trades.

NPR asked Jordan why Moderna executives modified their 10b5-1 plans just before major announcements.
Initially, Jordan said by email, "I believe you must have your dates wrong."
NPR then provided documentation of those dates from the company's official disclosures to the government, which Jordan did not dispute.

In the first federal ruling on vaccine mandates, a Houston judge Saturday dismissed a lawsuit
by hospital employees who declined the COVID-19 shot – a decision that could have a ripple effect across the nation.

The case involved Houston Methodist, which was the first hospital system in the country to require that all its employees get vaccinated.
U.S. District Judge Lynn N. Hughes said federal law does not prevent employers from issuing that mandate.

The lawsuit claimed that federal law prohibits employees from being required to get vaccinated
without full U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval of the vaccines.
The judge dismissed this argument as well, saying that law does not apply to private employers.

He also dismissed an argument that anyone who gets the vaccine is effectively a human subject in an experimental trial.
"The hospital's employees are not participants in a human trial," he wrote.
"They are licensed doctors, nurses, medical technician, and staff members.
The hospital has not applied to test the COVID-19 vaccines on its employees."

The lawsuit originally was filed in Texas state court but was moved to federal court at Houston Methodist's request.
The federal judge ruled Saturday that Texas state law only protects workers from being fired if they are forced to commit a crime.

Three California State University, Chico, students who have recovered from COVID-19 are suing the school,
saying the California State University system’s requirement that they receive a COVID-19 vaccine
before returning to class in the fall places them at risk of dying.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Sacramento on behalf of Austin Higley of Grass Valley and Kyle Clark and Ryan Clark,
both of Rocklin, says all three students contracted COVID-19 in January 2020 and subsequently recovered from the virus.

On April 22, the students received emails from the university informing them that once federal authorities officially license vaccines
now being administered on an emergency-use basis “students, faculty and staff must be vaccinated
or they will be precluded from the campus for the fall semester,” the lawsuit states.

touch on the implications of the controversial Japanese Pfizer biodistribution study. The study was made public earlier this month by Dr. Byram Bridle, a viral immunologist.

As The Defender reported June 3, Bridle received a copy of a Japanese biodistribution study — which had been kept from the public —
as a result of a freedom of information request made to the Japanese government for Pfizer data.

Prior to the study’s disclosure, the public was led to believe by regulators and vaccine developers that the spike protein
produced by mRNA COVID vaccines stayed in the shoulder where it was injected and was not biologically active —
even though regulators around the world had a copy of the study which showed otherwise.

The biodistribution study obtained by Bridle showed lipid nanoparticles from the vaccine did not stay in the deltoid muscle
where they were injected as the vaccine’s developers claimed would happen, but circulated throughout the body
and accumulated in large concentrations in organs and tissues, including the spleen, bone marrow, liver, adrenal glands
and — in “quite high concentrations” — in the ovaries.

(June 22, 2021) Indiana students sue over COVID-19 vaccine requirement
Students at Indiana University filed a federal lawsuit Monday, suing the school over its COVID-19 vaccination requirement.
The lawsuit alleges that the university violates students' rights as well as Indiana's vaccine passport law.
The recently passed law prohibits state and local governments from creating or requiring vaccine passports.

In the lawsuit, the students claim that they are being coerced into vaccination and that if they do not comply,
they face "the threat of virtual expulsion from school."

Earlier this month, school administrators announced that students would have to verify their vaccination status
with the school unless they applied for a medical or religious exemption.
Those without exemptions can have their class schedules canceled, their student IDs deactivated
and won't be allowed to participate in on-campus activities, according to the lawsuit.
