The US is planning to dump 60 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccines on India

and hence the unwanted stock is being offloaded on Indians.

(April 30, 2021) WHO lists anti-Covid Moderna vaccine for emergency use
The World Health Organization on Friday said it had listed the anti-COVID-19 Moderna vaccine for emergency use.
The US vaccine is the fifth jab to earn WHO's emergency listing.
The US Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency use authorization for the Moderna vaccine on 18 December 2020
and a marketing authorisation valid throughout the European Union was granted by the European Medicines Agency on 6 January 2021.
The other vaccines listed for emergency use by WHO are Pfizer BioNTech; AstraZeneca; Serum Institute of India; and Janssen.

(February 5, 2021) India: Pfizer withdraws COVID vaccine application for emergency use
Pfizer Inc. said on Friday that it has pulled out an application for emergency use authorization of the BioNTech-Pfizer coronavirus vaccine in India.
The decision came after Pfizer representatives met with India’s health regulator on Wednesday,
who refused to grant the pharmaceutical's vaccine the authorization, citing a lack of immunogenicity trials.
The company said that it would shortly submit another authorization request with further information when available.
India's drug regulator wanted Pfizer to conduct local trials to ensure the safety of the vaccine for official authorization.
But the company failed to present evidence that its vaccine was safe for the Indian population,
according to a Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) statement.

(May 4, 2021) Researchers create new gene editing tool called RLR that makes millions of genetic experiments to be performed simultaneously
Researchers at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University
and Harvard Medical School (HMS) have created a new gene editing tool called Retron Library Recombineering (RLR)
that makes this task easier. RLR generates up to millions of mutations simultaneously, and “barcodes” mutant cells
so that the entire pool can be screened at once, enabling massive amounts of data to be easily generated and analyzed.
The achievement, which has been accomplished in bacterial cells, is described in a recent paper in PNAS.

“RLR enabled us to do something that’s impossible to do with CRISPR: we randomly chopped up a bacterial genome,
turned those genetic fragments into single-stranded DNA in situ, and used them to screen millions of sequences simultaneously,”
said co-first author Max Schubert, Ph.D., a postdoc in the lab of Wyss Core Faculty member George Church, Ph.D.

Retrons are segments of bacterial DNA that undergo reverse transcription to produce fragments of single-stranded DNA (ssDNA).
Retrons’ existence has been known for decades, but the function of the ssDNA they produce flummoxed scientists from the 1980s until June 2020,
when a team finally figured out that retron ssDNA detects whether a virus has infected the cell, forming part of the bacterial immune system.

Gov. Kevin Stitt announced Monday that he signed an executive order to lift the state of emergency he put in place in mid-March 2020,
at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Stitt's announcement does not impact any COVID-19 restrictions,
because Oklahoma doesn't currently have any restrictions in place.
The governor lifted the state's few remaining restrictions in March.
The expiration of the emergency declaration also triggers a 30-day countdown
for government and public bodies to resume meeting in-person.

(May 13, 2021) Five people to be given $1,000,000 for getting their Covid vaccine
Mike DeWine, Ohio’s Republican governor, announced the jaw-dropping scheme
on Wednesday in hopes of persuading more state residents to accept their Covid vaccines.
It comes as the pace of US vaccinations has slowed in recent weeks due to
skepticism about the drugs or hesitancy over side effects.
The number of Americans seeking vaccinations has dropped by a third in recent weeks,

Ohio officials will draw the names of five people from its list

during the Covid pandemic have admitted its work was “unethical” and “totalitarian”.

Members of the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Behaviour (SPI-B)
expressed regret about the tactics in a new book about the role of psychology in the Government’s Covid-19 response.

SPI-B warned in March last year that ministers needed to increase “the perceived level of personal threat” from Covid-19
because “a substantial number of people still do not feel sufficiently personally threatened”.
