Just my opinion. I don't think we're so close to full fledged armed conflict as it was back then. But, of course, with British navy intending to enter the Black sea it may change quickly.

at the time of Cuban missile crises there were no hypersonic rockets. There was no way for rocket from US (or CCCP) to hit target in other Russia (or US). Now with hypersonic missiles time of flight is 20 minutes (or less). Also, NATO is practically on boarders of Russia.
