Now that the alleged source of the documents (but not the leaker, who is supposedly a teen) has been arrested thanks to Bellingcat and regime media, the big question about the #PentagonLeaks is whether they are legitimate. The early stuff, actually shared on social networks, certainly appeared to be genuine US spy reports (whether what they presented had any relation to reality is an entirely different matter).

My gut feeling was that at some point, as the regime panicked over the possible threat to its narratives, they seeded fake reports — Serbian and Egyptian weapons sales, Mossad trying to oust Netanyahu, etc. — as part of spreading fear/uncertainty/doubt. Today's claim by WaPo — that US spies had intercepted a Russian intelligence report that China had agreed to arm Russia but wanted it kept secret — cements this conclusion in my mind.

in Russia codeine was available without a prescription and heroin was scarce. Desomorphine, known by the street name krokodil, is a powerful opioid derivative of codeine. Like heroin and other opioids, it has a sedative and analgesic effect and is highly addictive.  Krokodil often contains drugs containing codeine or other opioids mixed with things like paint thinner, petrol, the red tips from matches, and hydrochloric acid. Long-term users who inject these caustic agents into their veins can develop extreme skin ulcerations, infections, and gangrene -- a discolored (green, grey, black) scale-like skin that resembles a crocodile, hence the street name “krokodil" or "crocodil". Homemade versions of the drug start with codeine, and can be ‘cooked’ similar to illicit methamphetamine (“meth”) production. Organic solvents such as gasoline, paint thinner, or lighter fluid, iodine, hydrochloric acid, and red phosphorus (from matches) are used in homemade synthesis. These dangerous chemicals are not always fully “cooked” out of the concoction when used to make illicit krokodil. Due to the drug’s rapid onset but short duration of action and frequent administration, quick physical dependence may occur.
