There are (of course) NATO troops on the ground but unofficially. But when NATO is officially in Ukraine, things will change drastically. All NATO countries then become military targets. Please take into account that right now, Russian territory is bombarded daily (including from NATO weapons). In that respect, this change will not affect Russia (they are already targeted) but only NATO countries. We are 2 steps from that. Maybe months ? Or even less.

For Russian perspective, Russia is already at war with NATO. Not officially declared but in reality.


It is just a question of decision when will Russia decide to hit storage areas and ammo depots in (let us say) Poland... Romania... Hungary... Germany... At this moment it starts to be more opportune to hit these countries than to pretend these countries are not engaged in conflict. Also, all of these countries are less protected than airspace in Ukraine. Mostly because most of the air defense systems are shipped to Ukraine. These countries can not defend themselves from cruise missiles. And Russia has cruise missiles (non-nuclear kind) that can hit targets in these countries.

These are also true. But I do not think NATO will accept defeat. And you should also consider that in some scenarios, it is more advantageous for Russians to attack first. Russians attacked Ukraine first, before their offensive on new Russia. It is not like Russia is not already in war with NATO. There are multiple attacks on Russian territory. Not just Russian territory of new Russia but also on Russian Federation.

If Russia attacks NATO countries...what can they lose ? Russia will give NATO casus belli ? Russia is already in war with NATO.  Kremlin was hit, UK delivered storm shadow missiles... NATO is crossing Russia's red lines and getting itself more and more into conflict. We are not talking here about delivery of just weapons.
