Brazil court overrules judge's suspension of potash mine in Amazon



A federal appeals court has overturned an injunction suspending the license for Canadian firm Brazil Potash Corp to build Latin America's largest fertilizer mine in the Amazon rainforest.

The Federal Regional Tribunal 1 ruled on Tuesday that the Amazon state environmental IPAAM has the authority to issue the license because there is no officially recognized Indigenous territory in the area of the planned $2.5 billion mine.

Federal judge Jaiza Fraxe in Manaus last month reiterated her 2016 decision to suspend the project until the Mura, a local Indigenous people, were consulted. She also ruled that a license must come from federal environmental agency IBAMA and not state agency IPAAM.

The appeals court ruled that there is no evidence that the area where the mine is planned is located on Indigenous lands.

U.S. to create new immigration program for Ecuadorians aimed at discouraging border crossings



The Biden administration will be opening a new legal immigration pathway for certain immigrants from Ecuador in a bid to dissuade people in the South American nation from trekking to the U.S.-Mexico border, according to internal federal government documents.

The administration is slated to announce Wednesday a family reunification program that will allow eligible Ecuadorians to fly to the U.S. and apply for temporary work permits if their U.S.-based relatives have sponsored them for an immigrant visa, the Department of Homeland Security documents show.

DHS officials hope the policy will "provide an alternative to dangerous irregular migration," according to the documents.

3. The elimination of any Nakba displaced Palestinian right of return except, Avnery grudgingly conceded, "token numbers", and
4. The reduction of any "independent" Palestinian state to a powerless, fragmented Bantustan whose economy would be entirely dependent on acting as hewers of wood and drawers of water for the zionist occupiers.
Under such circumstances the two state solution needs to be dead and buried. The only choice is a one state with equal status for everyone or a Palestinian state with zionists deported to whatever country its idiotic enough to accept them.
