Rheinmetall Establishes Kiev-based Weapons JV


Germany's largest weapons manufacturer announced Tuesday it had set up a joint venture with Ukrainian state concern Ukroboronprom headquartered in Kiev after Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal met german Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the German-Ukrainian economic forum in Berlin.

The new company, called called Rheinmetall Ukrainian Defense Industry LLC, has been operating since October 18. Rheinmetall owns 51% of the enterprise, while Ukraine holds the other 49%.

At first it will repair military equipment, before bringing the production of German weapons to Ukraine soon. Since 2022, Rheinmetall has supplied the country with dozens of pieces of equipment, including Marder infantry fighting vehicles and Leopard tanks.
