Danish Nazi-collaborator Government Forced To Step Down

August 29 marks the 81 years anniversary of the ending of Denmarks shameful collaboration with the German Nazi occupiers during WWII.

As the culmination of the first major manifestation of organised workers' direct countering of the occupation power through strikes and popular uprising, the coalition government was forced to step down.
A weeks long tug of war between Copenhagen workers and the Germans showed that the political balance, the hearts and minds of the people, had shifted towards resistence - the impact of the great victory of the Red Army at Stalingrad was felt far and wide.

Danish workers, initiated by communists at the main ship yard B&W (Burmeister & Wain) in Copenhagen, responded to the introduction of curfew due to growing sabotage by collectively launching a "going home early" campaign - allegedly to have enough time to tend to their utility gardens. Others followed and soon Copenhagen and other big cities were involved. 

Finally the government resigned as it found it politically impossible to carry out the German demands of i.e. capital punishment for sabotage.

Ending the collaboration was a huge victory for the underground resistance movement, and a clear sign of its growing strength as the legitimate political force.

The communists, though, paid a high prize for the victory. 

Hundreds had since June 22, 1941, been imprisoned in the Danish KZ camp "Horserød", under Danish jurisdiction. Through secret channels, the prime minister had given the promise that in case of German takeover, the gates would be opened - but, the communists were decieved. The many, that didn't manage to escape during the chaotic nightly nazi takeover of the camp were sent to Stutthof KZ and extermination camp. Many didn't return. 

Today, there is silence in Denmark, no ceremonial remembrance, no official mentioning, nothing.

The collective history is deliberately being destroyed! Paving the way for fascism to rise again.
