In the attack, a message was received on the pager, and as then detonated shortly.

Pagers are usually read, after an encrypted message is received, which caused the severe injuries near the face and hand.

Blood is needed in all hospitals in Beirut, and south Lebanon. A lot of CCTV footage is circulating of the event. A massacre!

What a better pre-emptive attack than litterly [sic] taking out hundreds out of service in one day. Regardless, today's events are a blessing, that uncovered an exploit either technical limitation in these devices that overcharge them or spyware.

It's communication device specifically used by Hezbollah members (that's what I've read). It's likely that it has self destruction mode in case user is in danger of being captured. That's what I can make from quoted message.
In different report I've just read that the devices were hacked and batteries overloaded. That ccaused explosions.
