I'm getting the impression from various bits and pieces I'm reading, that Russia is going to move on Idlib sooner rather than later, perhaps to pre-empt any attempt by the west to stage a chemical attack?

That looks like the case. Russia/Syria will not give the US a chance to set it up, and so, save a potential conflict with the West again...

If there are reliable informations that chemicals were already transported and handed over then, I'm afraid, there is little to none probability that the CW false flag attack can be stopped at this moment. It will be orchestrated shortly after the offensive launch I guess.
I checked some of the ships deployed recently of the coast of Syria and, except cruise, anti-ship and anti-submarine missiles they have large numbers of SAMs. Marshal Ustinov has 64 S-300, Severomorsk 64 SAMs, Yaroslav Mudry 32 SAMs. That's just a few of them...

Trump Rejects EU Offer For No Auto Tariffs
Earlier today, EU trade chief Cecilia Malmström surprised pundits and sent shares of European automakers higher when she said that Brussels was willing to scrap tariffs on autos, among all other industrial products, if the US would reciprocate.
As a reminder, while the EU’s car tariff of 10% is higher than the general U.S. auto tariff of 2.5%, America imposes a 25% duty on light trucks and pick-ups.
So with Europe offering a trade olive branch to Trump, what was the US president's response?
Simple: "It’s not good enough," Trump told Bloomberg News during his extended interview, in response to the EU proposal. The reason: "their consumer habits are to buy their cars, not to buy our cars."

So there you have it. Another example where dotard pushes tariffs on other countries for alleged economic reasons and the so called 'free market', when it is nothing to do with economic reasons at all. And the alleged economic reason is just used as cover for pushing geopolitical blackmail.
Trump says "the EU has higher tariffs than the US, so it's not fair" and reacts by applying tariffs on the EU products. Then when a country agrees to US demands to reduce their tariffs on the US products Trump moves the goalposts, turns around and says not good enough.
But then there's the US ambassador to Germany who has revealed that Trump would very likely be willing to rescind the tariffs on the European countries if they comply with US demands when it comes to Iran.
