The finalized Global Firepower ranking utilizes over 55 individual factors to determine a given nation's PowerIndex ('PwrIndx') score. The unique, in-house formula allows for smaller, more technologically-advanced, nations to compete with larger, though lesser-developed, ones. Modifiers (in the form of bonuses and penalties) are applied to further refine the list. A perfect PwrIndex score is 0.0000 which is realistically unattainable in the scope of the GFP formula.
Some qualities to observe in regards to the finalized ranking:
+ Ranking does not rely solely on total number of weapons available to any one country but rather focuses on weapon diversity.
+ Nuclear stockpiles are NOT taken into account but recognized / suspected nuclear powers are given a bonus.
+ First World, Second World, and Third World statuses are taken into account.
+ Geographical factors, logistical flexibility, natural resources, and local industry are influencers.
+ Total available manpower is a key consideration as it influences available personnel and industry.
+ Land-locked nations are NOT penalized for lack of a standing navy; However, naval powers ARE penalized for lack of diversity in available assets.
+ NATO allies receive a slight bonus due to the theoretical sharing of war-making resources.
+ A nation's financial stability / health is taken into account.
+ Current political / military leadership is NOT taken into account.
For 2018 there are a total of 136 countries included in the GFP database. New to 2018 are Ireland, Montenegro, and Liberia.

here's a little refresher/update...
Earlier this month, almost 5 months after he replaced Carles Puigdemont as regional head, Catalan leader Quim Torra again called on the central government in Madrid to agree to a referendum on independence. Of course on 1 October, Catalonia already voted for independence in a referendum that was banned by Felipe’s government.
Torra said:
The Oct. 1 mandate is in force and we are working to bring it into effect;
only an agreed, binding and internationally recognized referendum on self-determination can renew that mandate.
King Felipe’s Prime minister, Pedro Sanchez that took over that role from Mariano Rajoy (after several corruption scandals involving the Spanish Royal family and Rajoy’s party) in June, ruled out a referendum on independence.
Sanchez proposed a referendum on greater Catalan autonomy instead: https://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2018...catalonia.html
Yesterday, Quim Torra rejected anything other than a full independence referendum:
If the Spanish government doesn’t see this as a negotiable position then we will press ahead because we have a democratic mandate.
Hundreds of thousands of Catalan secessionists are expected to take the streets in Barcelona on September 11 to mark a regional holiday, which could become a mass protest for independence from Spain.
Torra has also repeated demands that charges are dropped against 9 separatist leaders for their role in last year’s banned referendum and the subsequent declaration of independence: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-s...-idUSKCN1LP0BG

Iran and North korea being ranked so high tells you that arms and military embargos don't work as it makes the country more inventive and now iran and north korea both create their own modern anti tank, anti ship and ballistic missiles while neighbouring countries like south korea, Saudi Arabia, Japan and UAE would not have a clue how to build own weapons because they are so dependent on America for weapons.

Good I hope the palestinians keep it up as having America in charge of the negotiations is like having a fox guard a chicken and hen house.

I was surprised to see Germany ranked so high.... must be all the NATO hardware that is cached there.
... not 1 of their submarines is mission ready.. only half their tanks... their 'helos' are old

https://sputniknews.com/analysis/201809111067915701-john-bolton-icc-remarks-plo-closure/
The decision by John Bolton, the national security adviser to US President Donald Trump, to threaten sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Monday
highlights the belief that the US [and Israel] is exempt from being punished for its war crimes.
...the ICC is considering whether to prosecute US servicemembers over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity
that were committed in Afghanistan.
Bolton's comments are "a continuation of that US tradition of demanding total impunity for itself and, of course, for its vassal, Israel."
"It indicates just the utter contempt the US continues to have under Trump, as it did under [former US President Barack] Obama and under [former US President] George W. Bush,
for any kind of international system or constraint,"
"The so-called rules-based order… has never in fact existed as far as the US is concerned."

According to my infos #Turkish and #Russian military and intelligence officials discuss at the moment,
how they can carry out a limited military operation in #Idlib with which all sides CAN more or less live.
2016 file photo: Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar (L) and General Valery Gerasimov (R)
Turkish Defense Minister Calls for Halt of Military Operations in Idlib
https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201809111067912366-turkey-syria-idlib-military-operation/
Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said Monday that
Ground and air operations in the Syrian province of Idlib should be stopped immediately.
"Attacks from the air and land in Idlib should be stopped immediately, the ceasefire regime must be secured and extended,"
=======
some rough calculations...
...50,000 members of the Free Syrian Army
TSK soldiers deployed exceeded 30,000...
70,000(?) militants and 3 million inhabitants...

The US has threatened to devastate Syria this week using warships but now Mother Nature has turned the tables and she will now devastate the entire US East Coast anywhere from Savannah, Georgia to Richmond, Virgina and beyond! Including the World's biggest Naval Base!

Wow
Unconfirmed
Turkey wants to take part in a military operation against areas occupied by Nusra
Turkey to then police these areas with Russia & SAA
Condition: no SAA attack on Turkey-backed groups/areas
Turkey will not withdraw from Syria until YPG is completely dismantled

A map to illustrate what would happen. Blue is Turkey-backed areas in Idlib (No SAA attack)
As a result of that Turkey will join SAA offensive against Nusra (HTS), Jaish Izza, & TIP.
Seeing how Nusra occupies entire border, might explain recent Turkish military build up there
