As many as 68 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers have been killed during a clash with Taliban militants in the Daimirdad district of central Maidan Wardak province, a public representative said on Monday.
Abdul Waheed Akbarzoi, the provincial council’s deputy chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Taliban insurgents stormed the district police headquarters, but they were pushed back by ANA soldiers late Sunday night.
However, 68 ANA personnel were killed in the overnight attack and currently their bodies were at Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan Military hospital in Kabul, he said, adding a security commander had shared this information with him.
Another PC member Sharifullah Hotak also the Daimirdad district had completely fallen into the hands of the Taliban after the attack. He said 41 Afghan Army personnel were killed.
