I've been following closely the impacts of ASF around the globe... especially China... for 2 years.
It's a serious matter that is unsolvable (except by quarantine)
and has SERIOUS socio-economic implications for China.. (not easy to keep billions of stomachs satisfied...
they are the largest consumers of pork BY FAR.)
Here's some snippets to bring you up to speed:
►China is home to between 50 and 60 percent of the worlds pig population.
►The disease is highly contagious but cannot be caught by humans. It can however be carried in contaminated meat such as pork chops.
►So far... it is NOT in the US.
►It is all over China. They don’t have a great track record with controlling viruses.
They are trying to trace contaminated blood meal from infected pigs, but it was distributed all over before this got full-blown.
The question isn’t whether or not ASF is there, it’s magnitude and speed. How quickly are the losses going to add up?
We’re watching the pork supply leading up to the Chinese New Year. They’ll need a big supply for the holiday.
After they move through all that inventory, how do they replenish it?
They’ve lifted the travel restrictions to get pigs to plants in some areas.
They’re trying to get pigs killed because they’re backing up on the farms and can’t get to the packing plants.
There’s no human health impact, so they are going to feed their people with the pork they can get from ASF-infected animals.
https://www.agriculture.com/news/livestock/massive-losses-in-china-could-mean-big-rewards-in-us
►recent figures showing there are currently 87 outbreaks worldwide.
►the disease has killed 1 million pigs, prompting authorities to restrict shipments of most of China's 700 million swine.
►The government maintains stocks of frozen pork in case of shortages but has yet to say whether any will be released this year.
►The cost of raising pigs spiked after Beijing retaliated for Trump's tariff hikes on Chinese goods by slapping 25 percent duties on imported U.S. soybeans used as animal feed.
►Given the lack of biosecurity, the number of pigs in the country, and the fact that half are backyard pigs, there’s almost no way they can get ASF under control.
So they’re likely to have massive losses, and the question is how do they backfill those losses?
We are focused on how quickly they can ramp up production. How are they going to feed their people? Because if they don’t feed their people, they’ve got a massive political issue.
Food insecurity is not a good recipe for future political aspirations.

US retail prices for boneless hams hit $4.31 per pound in March, the highest since 2015.
In the European Union, wholesale pig prices have climbed 16% in two months, while lean hog futures traded on the CME are higher by 32% since the February lows.
None of this compares to what is about to hit China, where consumers are bracing for a shock as pork prices may surge more than 70% in the second half of this year an agriculture ministry official said this week, as the country's pork output plunges as much as 30% this year, according to Rabobank, and could spike Chinese CPI in the coming months, sharply limiting the PBOC's efforts to stimulate and boost liquidity in the world's (credit-driven) growth dynamo and curbing China's latest attempt to reflate the world and boost global economic growth.
“Some meat that used to go to the U.S. is now going to China because it pays more,” Jens Munk Ebbesen, director of food safety and veterinary issues at the Danish Agriculture & Food Council, told Bloomberg.
Far from limited to just pigs, the virus which has upended China’s meat industry, will have devastating - for meat lovers and pork shorts - and far-reaching effects, from pushing up food prices to increasing demand for other meats, like chicken and beef.
Seeking to frontrun some of the price surges, China recently made its biggest-ever weekly purchase of US pork as shares of Brazil's JBS, the world’s largest meat producer, rallied 8% this week.
"African swine fever has sparked a rally across global protein stocks, but it’s not too late to buy in,” Morgan Stanley analysts led by Rafael Shin said in a report to clients this week. “We think the rally has only begun and that the long-term impacts of ASF are still not understood."
While this is terrible news for pork consumers, it's some long overdue good news for embattled US farmers, who will be able to sell their hogs for higher prices as a result of the soaring demand. And while producers may start to breed more livestock, the process takes time.
"It will be a good moment for producers," said Didier Delzescaux, the director of French pork council Inaporc.
Finally, it’s not just China that’s grappling with the spread of disease: pork prices may soar even more, as fears spread in Europe that the virus, which was detected in wild boars in Belgium last year, could infect domestic hogs in major exporters, such as France and Germany. France is in the process of building a fence running dozens of kilometers near the border in an effort to contain the disease, unfortunately in a stark comparison to similar "fortifications" undertaken during World War II, this venture will fail spectacularly.

The Empire is going to make a move, very soon. Now RuF. and it's allies have had all the time in the world to make credible defenses operational. It would not have to take Stavka to figure out what is going to happen. If such move is made it is because it is felt that there will be no credible response to such naked aggression; this would be the price for a long standing pattern of backing down when it counts. Netanyahu wants Iran and Russia out of Syria in worst way; he wants Syria broken up, a Kurdish state, all to make Israel power in region, and to add to it's territory, and because of his control over Orange Idiot he will use that power to accomplish it. There can be no more backwards steps, too much has been invested, too much is at stake. No sane person would ever want war, but when dealing with international gangsters, who have scoffed at all sensible proposals, offers, even pleadings ... well what can one do, he must either fight or submit at some point, as he will never be left in peace by these war criminals. I concur. I'm still unsure if all of this "backing down" is strategic decission, as it allows data mining regarding enemy's capability (for example, during the latest Israeli agression, the brand new hypersonic missiles were used allegedly - were they allowed to struck the targets because they are superrior or because it was important to collect data about the missiles?). After all, it was Sun Tzu, who said “Appear weak when you are strong, and strong when you are weak.” Or is all of this result of simple fact that is Syria is not real Russian war theatre? It's beyond doubt that Russia can defend it's own territory. But its army is defensive, not invasion army, as US/NATO armies are, so it can't project its power so significantly in remoted regions. Russia destroyet globalists' plot to overthrow legitimate Syrian government with a bunch of ragtag jihadi militants. But its not end yet. So what gonna be next? I'm quite disappointed with Chinese passivity tho'. But, after all, it's their natur I'm afraid.

These reports claim the US is trying to prevent Iran from having access to the international highway that links Albukamal and Al-Qa’im in Iraq.
Zod, you bring up so many important aspects, potential aspects of this very complex problem, excellent questions you ask. It is certainly plausible that RuF., dealing with limited capacities as compared to The Empire, indeed has to be prudent, cautious and responsible in its actions, as the margin for error in such things is quite small. There is no doubt that RuF. has the ability to assert itself on it's own territory and on it's near abroad, but all interest must be weighed very carefully when responding, as we know acting in a rash hasty manner is counter productive to securing long term goals. This being said, The Empire is always testing, always probing, looking for areas of exploitation. Now here is latest example... Syria, a country rich in oil reserves now faces a shortage; the reason why, is that The Empire has taken a two fold approach here, on the one hand they have used their proxies and their own might in illegally carving the oil producing regions of Syria away from the Syrian government, and on the other hand, they have used their economic levers of power to threaten sanctions on independent nations, who show no will to resist, from alleviating the situation. Now, RuF. has made the commitment to Syria, it cannot walk away without incredible damage to prestige, it has to back it's deployments; furthermore, all Syrian oil producing regions must be returned to Damascus. RuF. holds cards here, RuF. must appear strong, resolved and if necessary take actions to achieve goal. Zod, the world watches here, only strength or weakness will be detected. Here Turkey can be brought on board, get rid of Kurds, they only serve Empire's interest, they want 'Kurdistan'. Use this to advantage with Turkey. RuF. must, must take very strong line with Israel, they can never be more than an enemy of Russia because of their goals. I suspect that the Empire will go for broke soon and attack Iranian interests in Syria watching the reaction, I doubt that they will attack RuF. assets directly... at first. RuF. has to be strong for allies, as the future economic order, silk road, ports ect depends on it. I agree with you that China has hid in the shadows here, that has to change. In Venezuela, if the Empire acts militarily, well there is not much in that region RuF. can do, ... BUT there are ...other regions... where they most certainly can.

250 people from Google & IT firms moved to federal government
More than 250 people have moved from Google and related firms to the federal government or vice versa since President Barack Obama took office. The Google Transparency Project, the work of Campaign for Accountability, poured over reams of data to find 258 instances of “revolving door activity” between Google or its associated companies and the federal government, national political campaigns and Congress since 2009.
Much of that revolving door activity took place at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, where 22 former White House officials went to work for Google and 31 executives from Google and related firms went to work at the White House or were appointed to federal advisory boards by Obama. Those boards include the President’s Council on Science and Technology and the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness.
Regulation watchdogs may be just as keen about the moves between Google and the Federal Communications Commission and Federal Trade Commission. Those government bodies regulate many of the programs that are at the heart of Google’s business, and there have been at least 15 moves between Google and its lobbying firms and those commissions.
The research also shows that 25 officials in national security, intelligence or the Department of Defense joined Google, and three Google executives went to work for the DOD.

Re: #24 - Main news thread - conflicts, terrorism, crisis from around the globe
Washington’s perverse reliance on force to preserve the liberal world order, after all, it’s not like the US assumed its current dominant role by merely competing more effectively in global markets. Oh, no. Behind the silk glove lies the iron fist, which has been used in over 50 regime change operations since the end of WW2. The US has over 800 military bases scattered across the planet and has laid to waste one country after the other in successive interventions, invasions and occupations for as long as anyone can remember. This penchant for violence has been sharply criticized by other members of the United Nations, but only Russia has had the courage to openly oppose Washington where it really counts, on the battlefield.
