considering the Shia represent nearly 2/3s of Iraq you can imagine how bloody this will get, especially if the US doesn't withdraw or it redeploys in Kurdish held area this could very well develop into a fresh Civil war

No need for a "big event" but development. One of my ideas to reach it: Don't play "their" games - don't use "their" rules - don't think in the box of "their" paradigms.
It's more "refuse" than "resist" - without too much ideology. You don't need to know much about "what's going on behind the curtains", it's mainly to create your own rules together with like-minded people.
That is what I mean with "I'm on the side of the people".

In my opinion, when the retaliation happens it will be just before the US markets open in order to create some troubles there..
If they are smart, they would also target the saudi oil field and oil industry (oil price jump to 140 USD) ==> big economical crash and they hurt Trump where he cares.
Then unleash Hezbolah + Hamas on Israel to try uniting muslims against a common enemy.
If answer from US : IRGC will target remaining US bases in the area, and sleeper cells will be activated in US soil (targeting US oil pipeline and oil infrastructure), with some additional cyberattacks.
