When Japan attacked the USA in 1941 ...

Afaik they attacked a military base, or was Hawaii part of the USA then? For me it always sounds as if an attack on Ramstein would be an attack on the USA, that sounds crazy.

So from my understanding, Japan attacked US territory.  Of course there was a Naval base.
US occupied Southern Germany and parts of Austria in 1945, but in 1949 the semi-independent Federal Republic of Germany was founded. But I have the suspicion, that there are some areas within Germany, that are permanently occupied by US (like Ramstein). German police has no access to these bases.

It will surely immediately resume wars shortly after it gains any sort of autonomy because that is what it does. Let's pick Germany's borders - those have probably been moved 100 times by now, why are they now correct in their current state?

China have been warmongering occupiers since before recorded history - why are all heir borders other than places like Tibet and Hong Kong proper?

France seems to own several African countries and islands to this day. But no one would say they own Vietnam like they used to, why just because they couldn't fight to keep it?

The entire world has always operated like this.

So perhaps in the end it may be just as simple as might makes right in combination with the amount of time you have been able to maintain possession without getting it taken away?
