Amid growing fears of a right-wing coup in Bolivia, thousands took to the streets to support the ruling ’Movement toward socialism’ [MAS] party. President Luis Arce and MAS founder and leader Evo Morales participated in the protest.

Pro-government unions, indigenous and women’s organizations mobilized for the protest in the capital La Paz. The massive mobilization was called in response to “destabilization” attempts by the opposition, including a series of “strikes” ordered by the right-wing government in Santa Cruz.

The right-wing opposition couped former indigenous President Evo Morales in 2019 under the leadership of Jeanine Áñez. Anti-coup protests were met with heavy repression, leading to 32 deaths.

I came to Nuremberg to provide a historical context for the current global threat facing our civilization. These past 2 and a half years have been particularly stressful, as my painful memories have rekindled.

I boarded a cattle car - the same train that still carried Jews to the death camps - even though Germany was losing the war.

Four years passed before I was reunited with my mother.

If we are to avoid another Holocaust, we must identify current threatening parallels before they poison the fabric of society.
