Shell agrees to develop Nigeria gas field for Dangote fertiliser
Shell Plc has made a final investment decision to build a gas supply facility in Nigeria to feed a fertiliser plant owned by Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote, the company said in a statement.
The new facility will supply 100 million standard cubic feet of gas per day from the Iseni field to the Dangote Fertiliser and Petrochemical plant for 10 years.
The $2.5 billion plant, Africa's largest urea complex with a 3-million-tonne output per year, accounts for 65% of Nigeria's fertiliser needs and can supply all the major markets in the sub-region.
"The agreement is a critical step in pursuing the development of the gas-rich Iseni field, which is part of the Okpokunou Cluster in Oil Mining Lease 35" in the oil-rich Bayelsa state, Shell's Nigeria chief said.

Majority of Nigerian cities have had electricity restored after experiencing total blackout on Sunday due to the national grid collapse.
Power generation fell to zero megawatts, causing widespread blackouts in major cities including capital, Abuja.
Various electricity distribution companies across the country sent messages apologising to customers regarding the incident.
In a statement, Nigeria’s transmission company announced that the national grid has been restored after repairs were carried out.
This was the first grid collapse this year. It collapsed several times last year.

Abducted Nigerian schoolchildren freed but driver killed
Gunmen in south-west Nigeria have released six schoolchildren and three teachers who they kidnapped nearly a week ago.
Authorities in Ekiti state on Sunday said a driver who was taken with them was killed.
They did not say if a ransom was paid to secure the pupils' freedom. The kidnappers had demanded more than $100,000.
They were expected to be taken to a local hospital for medical treatment and post-trauma therapy.

KoBold Metals, a California-based metals exploration company backed by billionaires Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos, said it may consider partnerships as it plans to fast-track development of a new copper mine in Zambia that could cost about $2 billion.

The Silicon Valley start-up, which uses artificial intelligence to search for copper, cobalt, nickel and lithium could also consider listing its shares publicly in the next three-to-four years, Josh Goldman, its co-founder and president, told.

While KoBold initially said it plans to build a new mine at its Mingomba project in Zambia within the decade, those plans are now being brought forward in the rush to meet increasing demand for critical metals, Goldman said.

The quality of the ore body could make Mingomba the highest grade Zambian discovery in 100 years, KoBold said.
