There is an alternative. A specialized AWACS aircraft with an antenna in a rotating dorsal fairing based on the An-12 is being mass-produced in China under the designation KJ-500. Over 10 years of production, more than 30 aircraft of this type were built for the PLA Air Force and naval aviation.
