Re: #12 - Main news thread - conflicts, terrorism, crisis from around the globe

The head of Iraq's largest parliamentary bloc, Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr, has said the incoming prime minister has one year to enact reforms before popular unrest against him begins and has called on him to name a Cabinet that is free of partisan, ethnic or sectarian pressures.
Adil Abdul-Mahdi
Abdul-Mahdi now has 30 days in which to draw up a new cabinet, which must then be presented to parliament for approval.
“Either promised reforms will be carried out gradually or the people will rise up,” al-Sadr warned, referring to ongoing protests in Iraq’s Shia-majority southern and central provinces.
Al-Sadr Says He Will Not Nominate Ministers for Incoming Iraqi Govt
https://www.albawaba.com/news/al-sadr-says-he-will-not-nominate-ministers-incoming-iraqi-govt-1195492
Sadr instructed his parliamentary bloc's members not to be in the coming new government, in order to give more options for Adel Abdul Mahdi to form his government.
Sadr expressed in his tweet his satisfaction in naming Abdul Mahdi who is an independent figure and clean from government corruption, as he said.
He called on all political parties not to put pressure on the options of Abdul Mahdi, so that he can form a cabinet free from party quotas - sectarian and ethnic - while maintaining the diversity of the Iraqi society.
The Shiite leader gave the government of Abdul Mahdi a full year to prove itself in front of the Iraqi people.
(he's a cunning sly fox...)

According to the plan published this week, Russia seeks to de-dollarize the economy by 2024. The program is long and complicated, but its key point is that Russian exporters who use rubles instead of dollars would get huge taxation benefits including quicker VAT returns and other stimulus
https://www.rt.com/business/440482-russia-dollar-economy-dependence/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=RSS
Better too late than never. The damage to economy was already done in RU and worldwide.

The Police chief is reported to have been held in China for ‘antagonizing’ Communist government.
A source familiar with the investigation said the working assumption was that the 64-year-old had antagonized Chinese authorities and had been detained as a result
Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post maintained that the Meng Hongwei had been taken away for questioning by Chinese authorities immediately he arrived China.
Interpol was aware of reports of the ‘alleged disappearance’ of its president and said the issue was a matter for France and China.
In a statement, it said: ‘This is a matter for the relevant authorities in both France and China.’

Meng Hongwei, 64, who is also a vice-minister at China’s Ministry of Public Security, was “taken away” for questioning by discipline authorities “as soon as he landed in China” last week, according to the source.
It is not yet clear why Meng is being investigated or exactly where he is being held.

Lebanese media say Saudi dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi who is suspected to have disappeared in Turkey’s Istanbul has been flown to Riyadh.
Lebanon’s Al Akhbar newspaper cited an Arab source as saying Saudi Arabia had informed Turkey that Khashoggi was currently in the Saudi capital Riyadh.
The journalist was recently reported to have disappeared in Turkey’s Istanbul after entering the Saudi Consulate.
However, the Arab source that spoke to Al Akhbar said Khashoggi had been taken out of another entrance to the consulate in a white vehicle in coordination with a Turkish security official.
He was then transferred to the airport before being flown to the kingdom, the newspaper added.
