It's all about Iran, Iran has no interest in Northern Syria the areas Iran cares about is Damascus, Latakia coast, Golan heights and the Syrian/Lebanese border all of which American proxies failed to capture. Iran sends weapons by air to Lebanon and Russia arms Assad so the US trying to block weapons coming from Iraq into Syria by occupying southern Syria is another losing move by US.
