More than 15 police officers and several civilians were killed in terrorist attacks in Russia’s Republic of Dagestan, the territory's head Sergey Melikov said.

The active phase of the counterterrorist operation in Makhachkala and Derbent has been completed: six gunmen have been neutralized, Melikov stated. Previously the Russian National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAC) reported that five gunmen were neutralized (two in Derbent and three in Makhachkala) during the antiterrorist operation.

Investigative procedures in Dagestan will be carried out until all accomplices of participants are found, Melikov said. He emphasized that the situation in the region is under the control of state authorities and law enforcement.

Mourning was declared in Dagestan for June 24, 25 and 26, as reported in the Telegram channel of the the head of the region's press service.

Putin was constantly receiving reports on Sunday and giving instructions in connection with the incidents in both regions.

The President deeply condolences with the relatives of the deceased, and assistance will be provided to all affected.

At the moment, there are no plans for any special address from the head of state.

Against the backdrop of events in Dagestan, Peskov stated that he does not consider a return to the situation of the 1990s possible: Russia is different now, society is consolidated.

Russia clearly understands who is behind the barbaric missile attack on Sevastopol.

The involvement of the US in combat actions resulting in the deaths of peaceful Russians cannot go without consequences.

No decision has been made to close the tourist season in Crimea due to yesterday's attack.

The Kremlin has accused the U.S. of ‘killing Russian children’ after a Ukrainian attack on occupied Crimea with long-range missiles supplied by Washington and said there will be unnamed ‘consequences.’

Moscow has summoned the U.S. ambassador to issue a formal warning, while Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov issued a public statement slamming the U.S. for ‘barbaric’ strike on Sevastopol, the strategic port city on the Black Sea.

‘The involvement of the United States, the direct involvement, as a result of which Russian civilians are killed, cannot be without consequences,’ said Peskov. ‘Time will tell what these will be.’
